Public Works

The Department of Public Works is responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of the water and sewer system and general maintenance of the town equipment.

The town water system consists of a watershed supplying 500,000 litres each day when the fishplant is in full operation. The water from the watershed flows by gravity to the chlorination system where it passes through micro filters and gets chlorinated. From here it is gravity fed to the residents of Harbour Breton.

In addition to the water and sewer system, the Department is responsible for snowclearing, sanding and salting of roads in winter and repair and maintenance during the summer. The Department also provides support to the other departments of council as required.
