The Town of Harbour Breton's Development Officer is available to meet with any individuals interested in starting a small business to discuss the idea and assist in developing a business plan.

Regional
The Coast of Bays Corporation is the regional zonal board and provides assistance to communities and not-for-profit organizations seeking to implement projects identified in the Regional Strategic Economic Development Plan. For more information check out their website or call 1-800-205-0799.
The South Coast Community Development Corporation is the regional Community Business Development Corporation offering financing and business counseling services to entrepreneurs. Department of Innovation Trade and Rural Development A variety of programs and services offered including assistance with developing business plans. Requirements
Municipal
Before starting any small business a visit to the Town Hall is advisable. A variety of application forms required by the Department of Government Services and Lands are available at the office.
A business tax is required of any business being established in the Town of Harbour Breton.
You will need to contact the Town Office (709-885-2354) to enquire about zoning guidelines or by email Bernice Herritt.
Provincial
Department of Government Services and Lands: Depending on the type of business certain criteria will need to be met, this may involve permits and licensing issues, accessibility, fire regulations, crown lands, environmental requirements, incorporating a business etc... The Department of Government Services and Lands will be able to provide you with many of the application forms that you will required (depending on the good or service you will be providing) in order to properly set up your business.
