Harbour Breton Recreation Commission

The recreation commission in the town includes Marion Colombe (President), Lenora Whittle (Vice-Chair), Doreen Vallis (Treasurer), Gail Pardy (Secretary), Dan Jackman, Geraldine Skinner, Maisie Mullins, Eva Vallis, and Margarett Molloy. Selwyn Langdon and Calvin Rose are responsible for the operations of the Connaigre Arena.

The Committee is responsible for maintaining the recreational facilities of the town, developing recreational programs and fundraising.

The recreational facilities include the Connaigre Arena, two baseball fields and two outdoor tennis courts. The Connaigre Arena has an artificial ice plant, a rink surface measuring 185 feet by 85 feet, a multipurpose room, a meeting room and four dressing rooms.

The Recreation Committee is responsible for developing and running the many recreational programs in town. These programs include softball, ball hockey, minor hockey, figure skating, recreational hockey, basketball, tennis, arts and crafts, pre-school program, indoor soccer, T-ball, badminton and hiking. A curling league plays at the arena every Saturday evening at 6:30PM.  Anyone interested should come along or contact Baxter at the Town Hall (885-2354).  The ice skating season usually runs from early November to mid- April.

The committee uses a number of fundraising methods including the weekly TV bingo which has a $1000.00 jackpot to go each week. As well, they hold arena dances and have such attractions at the arena as amusement fairs, circuses and popular musical groups in concerts. The Recreation Committee is also responsible for organizing the Annual Tradition by the Sea Festival each year.
