New Chair Appointed to the Harbour Breton Economic Development Committee (EDC)

The Town of Harbour Breton has supported the recommendation of the EDC and appointed John Vallis as the New Chair of the Economic Development Committee.

Mr. Vallis replaces former Mayor Churence Rogers as chair having served as vice chair since its inception in 1997. The EDC was formed with a mandate to diversify Harbour Breton's Economy and develop a five year Strategic Development Plan. The plan continues to guide the economic and social development needs of the community.

Mr. Vallis has a long history of service to the Community both as a former adminstrator for the Hospital and more recently as a volunteer. Mr. Vallis' commitment to the community is evident in his current and past volunteer activities, including

·                Member of Local Lion’s Club since 1976 holding offices of President, Secretary, Treasurer and Chair of various Committees including, the Lions Sunset Cottages (Seniors Housing Development), and the Community Ambulance Service.  

·                Board Member of the South and Central Health Foundation.

·                Member of the Harbour Breton Economic Development Committee since 1996  and Current Committee Chair.

·                Member of the Junior Achievement Area Committee for Town of Harbour Breton.

·                Member of the Harbour Breton Golf Association

·                Member of the Harbour Breton Harbour Development Committee.

·                Chair of the Harbour Breton / Connaigre Broadband Committee.

·                Past Board Member of the Integrated School Board spending one term as Chair.

·                Former Councillor of the Town Of Harbour Breton.

·                Member of the Industrial Adjustment Services Committee for the Town of Harbour Breton (1994-96).
